Postcoital Testing (PCT) as Fertilization Challenge



Postcoital Testing or PCT is one to check if there is a problem with fertilization. In this kind of test, a cervical mucus sample is taken 4 to 12 hours after sexual intercourse and just before expected ovulation. There is a home ovulation kits that can be used to know the best time for performing this test.

Take note that intercourse should take place the night before or morning of the office visit. The sample of cervical mucus will be examined under microscope in order to evaluate the ability of the sperm to survive in the cervical mucus.
